The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the struggle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for greed in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top biopic regarding the shamed televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about profiting from the American public's religious faith. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, bad makeup and hypocrisy, yet Chastain achieves to present the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, late night, Film4
